May Donations – Carpenter Hospice “Team Pat O’Day”

Our employees came together with a shared purpose and selected “The Carpenter Hospice” in honor of Team Pat O’Day.

In May 2023, we experienced a profound loss when one of our cherished employees lost a beloved family member, Pat O’Day. Pat who bravely fought against cancer spent his final weeks in the comfort and care at Carpenter Hospice. A place where he had selflessly volunteered for 10 years, becoming an integral part of their community.

Pat’s family and friends will be participating in a heartfelt 5 km walk to raise essential funds for Carpenter Hospice to honour Pat’s memory.  They hope to continue his legacy of giving on June 3, 2023 at 9am.

History of Carpenter Hospice

In 1999 the four Rotary Clubs of Burlington committed a pledge towards developing the Hospice. Burlington resident Len Carpenter donated $500,000 to the project, earning him the right to choose the name for the new Hospice. St. Stephen United Church generously offered to lease a piece of property adjacent to its parking lot for “one dollar and a rose” a year. The lease is for 100 years! On May 25, 2002, Carpenter Hospice officially opened its doors to their first residents.

Carpenter Hospice offers community-based programs for people dealing with a life-limiting illness or grief. Now an 11-bedroom hospice has welcomed over 3,000 people who have given staff and volunteers the privilege of being a part of their end-of-life journey.
